Faculty of Religions and Islamic Educations

This faculty was previously known as the Department of Religions, Philosophy, and Islamic Mysticism from the early years of the university’s establishment. However, in the new era, with structural changes and redefinition of the faculties in 2021, it was officially renamed the Faculty of Religions and Islamic Educations. It includes the departments of Philosophy and Islamic Mysticism, as well as Religions.

Objectives of the Faculty 

  • Educating students to gain expertise and academic capacity in various fields of religions, Islamic knowledge, and philosophy.
  • Promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence, and creating a platform for understanding and exchange of views among followers of different religions.
  • Enhancing the level of scientific research related to religions and Islamic knowledge.
  • Conducting comparative studies of religions and philosophical schools to better understand interactions and differences.
  • Connecting religious studies with other humanities and social sciences.

Mission of the Faculty 

The Faculty of Religions and Islamic Educations, in line with the mission of the International University of Islamic Denominations and committed to advancing religious knowledge and raising the academic level of society, strives to achieve its multiple goals. The faculty aims to provide a suitable environment for deeper understanding of Islamic knowledge and promote peaceful coexistence among religions. It also seeks to establish an appropriate platform for academic and educational research, training a new generation of experts and researchers to contribute to the development and spread of Islamic culture and knowledge.

To achieve its mission and objectives, the faculty has benefited from the expertise of distinguished professors such as the late Dr. Ahmadi, retired professor of philosophy at the Faculty of Literature, University of Tehran, and the first president of the SAMT organization; Dr. Dinani, retired professor of philosophy at the Faculty of Literature, University of Tehran; Dr. Ghavam Safari, faculty member of the philosophy department at the Faculty of Literature, University of Tehran; Dr. Ebrahimi from the philosophy department at the Faculty of Theology, University of Tehran; Dr. Tavaziani from the philosophy department at Alzahra University; Dr. Houshangi from the religions department at Alzahra University; Dr. Zarvani from the department of religions and mysticism at the Faculty of Theology, University of Tehran; Dr. Shams from the philosophy department at Imam Khomeini International University in Qazvin; Dr. Mohammadzadeh from the philosophy department at Imam Sadiq University; and Dr. Ghanbari from the department of religions at Islamic Azad University.

Dean of the Faculty 

Dr. Mohammad Taghi Shakeri, an assistant professor and a graduate of Islamic Jurisprudence and Law from Shahid Motahari Higher Education School and holding a Master’s and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Tehran, is currently the dean of this faculty.
