Visit of Bangladeshi Scholars to the University President: Dr. Fallahzadeh Emphasizes Practical Unity of the Islamic Ummah in Facing Common Threats

Visit of Bangladeshi Scholars to the University President: Dr. Fallahzadeh Emphasizes Practical Unity of the Islamic Ummah in Facing Common Threats On Monday, May 12, 2025, the University of Islamic Denominations hosted a delegation of Sunni scholars from Bangladesh. The delegation, visiting Iran at the invitation of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, met with Dr. Mohammad Hadi Fallahzadeh, President of the University, along with vice presidents, department heads, and faculty members during their visit to the university. According to the university’s Public Relations Office, the meeting—marked by a warm and friendly atmosphere—was attended by distinguished Bangladeshi scholars, directors of the Hanafi and Shafi‘i Jurisprudence departments, and the Department of Religions and Denominations. The gathering concluded with a congregational unity prayer. Dr. Fallahzadeh warmly welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of strengthening academic and cultural cooperation between universities in Iran and Bangladesh. Referring to the global mission of Islam and the role of the university in realizing this vision, he stated: “Since our approach is based on unity and serving the Islamic Ummah, our actions must align with the interests of the Ummah. Political borders have been imposed on us by others; if we transcend ideological boundaries, geographical borders will no longer obstruct our unity.” He further added: “The message of the Qur’an addresses all humanity, and religious leaders throughout history have sought the salvation of humankind regardless of race, color, or sect. In these critical times, practical unity must guide our actions to prevent further tragedies in the Muslim world.” Dr. Fallahzadeh also outlined the mission behind establishing the University of Islamic Denominations, saying: “Promoting both theoretical and practical proximity among Islamic schools of thought is one of our central goals. Here, jurisprudence of each school is taught by scholars of that very tradition. We are fully prepared to engage in academic collaboration and faculty/student exchange—both virtually and in-person—with universities in Bangladesh.” Following this, Dr. Jalil Parvin, Vice President for Education and Graduate Studies, presented the university’s educational and research capacities and emphasized the importance of spreading the culture of proximity and peaceful coexistence among Muslims. Welcoming the Bangladeshi scholars, Molavi Mohammad Ishaq Madani, a faculty member, emphasized the critical role of scholarly exchange between different Islamic schools in strengthening Islamic unity. Dr. Vaisi, Head of the Department of Shafi‘i Jurisprudence and Law, also highlighted the need to identify common viewpoints and enhance solidarity in the face of shared threats. At the conclusion of the visit, the Bangladeshi scholars expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the university and the Iranian people and praised the role of the University of Islamic Denominations in promoting inter-sectarian dialogue and a culture of proximity. The visit ended with the performance of a unity prayer attended by both Sunni and Shia brothers.
